The Budapest Development Centre presented the visual plans for the surroundings of Városliget. This includes the preliminary plans of the new tram overpass on Szegedi Street, as well as Rákosrendező Station. The goal is to make the surroundings of Városliget car-free.
Car-free plans were introduced
The Budapest Development Centre (BFK) presented its plans to renew the surroundings of Városliget in an online forum. The study plans of the new road-tram overpass on Szegedi Street and the new Rákosrendező Station are also part of the plans.
The area around Városliget may be completely car-free in the future.
To do this, several conditions must be met. The Kós Károly Promenade must be closed to traffic. Parking in Városliget should be banned, and Heroes’ Square should be free of traffic, writes Dávid Vitézy, director of BFK.
In early 2021, works began on the development of car decommissioning plans for Városliget. The plan is a rather complex concept that will completely transform Budapest. On Mexikói Road, for example, they plan 1,500 parking spaces to make Városliget car-free, writes pestbuda.hu.
Many road, tram, pedestrian, and cycling connections have an important role in the plans.
The bridge could transform the whole life of Budapest
In his Facebook post, Vitézy highlights the importance of the bridge not only for the area but for the whole of Budapest. During the design of the bridge, BFK consulted with the two affected districts and the capital. The bridge has been planned since the 1950s. The capital decided on the fate of the bridge in 2019, and then in 2020, design works began.
